Developer Blog | Upcoming Changes to Equipment Progression

We wanted to give you a heads up about some upcoming Equipment Progression changes the team has been working on that will be introduced with the release of 14.9.

Now, instead of just enhancements, you’ll also be able to upgrade your equipment level in a Forge for better rewards when harvesting or collecting resources.

There are 4 tiers of progression:

Basic ➡️ Fine ➡️ Superior ➡️ Exquisite

As you harvest resources, you’ll get Expertise with a certain tool. When you get enough Expertise, you’ll see a “Enhance Equipment” marker telling you it’s ready to be upgraded.

You can then upgrade it at a Forge using equipment-specific Expertise earned through harvesting.

So when you are harvesting a resource that would give better rewards with better equipment, you will see a message e.g. “Better with Superior Axe” on the Interact Prompt.

When you reach the Exquisite level, you’ll be able to apply the Trusty or Lucky enhancement to them.

When the Trusty / Lucky enhancement durability runs out, your equipment will regress back to their Exquisite variant, instead of the Basic level.

Note: Other player’s loot drops during co-op harvesting or fluffalo train rides are unaffected by your equipment’s level and enhancements.

What does this mean for your current tools?

To apply those changes, your equipment – meaning your Axe, Machete, Pickaxe, Shears and Shovel – will need to be set to the first equipment progression step: Basic. This is due to some technical limitations, so all of you can experience the equipment progression sequence, and so we can keep testing it for possible issues and feedback. If you have enhancements, those will also unfortunately be reset, as now the Enhancements require that tools are upgraded to Exquisite first.

UI, icons and other elements shown in the screenshot may have been altered

These changes won’t affect the Fishing Rods and Scrub Brushes for now, as we’re still working on balancing them out and figuring out some technical issues. This means that if your Fishing Rod was enhanced before the 14.9 update, it will still be enhanced after the update takes place.

We will provide a detailed list of all the changes introduced in the 14.9 Patch Notes as well when it releases next week. We appreciate your continued support and, as always, we’d love to hear your feedback!

Let us know what you think on Discord or our subreddit after the release!
