We love seeing fan art inspired by Spirit Crossing, and we want fans to feel free to create, share, and even sell their creations on a small scale.
You don’t need to ask our permission as long as you follow these guidelines:
Make and share freely
First and foremost: fan art, fan fiction, comics, animations, cosplay, videos — as long as you’re not commercializing them in any way whatsoever, and you’re also not causing harm to anyone, you don’t need our permission, and there’s no limit on what you can do.
The additional rules appearing below only apply if you want to sell something.
Make it yours
Your hand-made fan art should include substantial original creative work. Please don’t simply reproduce or barely modify screenshots, models, or other assets taken from the game.
Keep it small
This permission is for individual fans, not companies or commercial merchandise businesses.
You may sell up to $10,000 USD in gross revenue per calendar year from all Spirit Crossing fan merchandise combined. This limit also applies across accounts, storefronts, and/or people working together; please don’t split sales up to try to get around it.
If your work becomes successful enough that you’d like to go beyond these limits, congratulations! Please contact us and we can talk about a separate license. Until we’ve granted you such a license, you must cease your Spirit Crossing-related sales that year.
Sell it yourself
You may sell directly to fans through your own shop, an Etsy-style storefront, conventions, art fairs, or similar channels.
You may not use any form of mass production, wholesale or retail distribution, dropshipping, or print-on-demand marketplaces that enable effectively unlimited sales, and you may not use crowdfunding to finance a merchandise production run.
You may sell individual commissioned artwork, but please don’t sell downloadable game assets, templates, 3D models, or other files intended for reuse or further production.
Make it clear that it’s unofficial
Please don’t use the Spry Fox or Spirit Crossing logos on your products or branding, or imply that your work is official, licensed, or endorsed by us.
When selling fan merchandise, please include a prominent notice like:
“Unofficial fan-created merchandise. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Spry Fox.”
You may, of course, use the words Spirit Crossing to accurately describe what your fan art is inspired by.
A little legal stuff
Spry Fox still owns all rights to Spirit Crossing and its characters, world, artwork, names, and other intellectual property.
This policy gives you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, royalty-free, and revocable permission to use our intellectual property only as described above. It does not give you ownership of any Spry Fox intellectual property.
We reserve the right to update this policy at any time and for any reason. Also, we reserve our right to ask someone, for any reason we see fit, to completely cease selling any and all products/merchandise associated with Spirit Crossing, now and forever. We do want to be cool and empower you. We don’t want to have to try to predict every objectionable or problematic thing someone might try to do with our IP. This policy is the compromise.
